Thursday 15: PR: Altered Landscapes & the Narrative Portrait
2011-12-12

Until 21 January 2011
Participating artists include Manfred Zylla, Diana Hyslop, David Hlongane,Clare Meck, Karlien de Villiers, Mark Hipper, Jan Neethling, Bernardo Tomos, Lara Feldman, Grada Djeri, Carla Erasmus, Marike Herselman & Monique Prinsloo.

Our summer group exhibition Altered Landscapes & the Narrative Portrait developed from a series of photographs by Carla Erasmus, an emerging talent based in Cape Town.

Erasmus shot her landscape photographs using expired (1997) slide film. Her landscapes are recognizable, albeit evocatively altered by the fading colour of the film she uses. Erasmus’s moody and softly focused landscapes are not nostalgic, on the contrary, it echoes a warning. We invited several painters and photographers to interpret a theme and submit works which loosely comment on peoples relationship to the land and the resulting environmental impact.
