Thursday 05: PR: Spier Architectural Arts Announcement
2012-07-02

Spier Architectural Arts is pleased to announce the artists commissioned to produce unique, site-specific works as part of the inaugural Telesure Investment Holdings Arts Programme. Iconic South African artists, Conrad Botes and Brett Murray have been invited to use the new Telesure Headquarters as a site to realise their most ambitious ideas.

The 24000m2 site is located 4km North of Fourways in the upcoming Steyn City development. Designed by DBM Architects, the Headquarters will consolidate their current business units that are currently housed in six separate buildings across Johannesburg and Pretoria. Spier Architectural Arts, whose main objective is to encourage widespread architectural-scale artworks as well as meaningful entrepreneurship in the arts, will curate the Telesure Arts Programme.

For the commission, Conrad Botes has designed a 13-metre high by 6-metre wide mosaic artwork to be prominently positioned inside Telesure’s central public atrium. The artwork will be created in Cape Town where Spier Architectural Arts oversees the Spier Arts Academy, offering employment-based training in contemporary mosaic.

Positioned at the main entrance to the building, a Brett Murray sculpture will measure 7 metres high. The bronze artwork will not only welcome daily visitors and the 2500 resident staff members, but will be viewable to motorists along William Nicol Road. As part of the development of the Telesure site, the existing William Nicol from Fourways is to be upgraded to a dual carriageway in both directions with a dedicated off-ramp to the Telesure site.

Telesure is part of an international financial services group and houses the leading insurance brands in South Africa including Auto & General Insurance, Unity Insurance and Dial Direct Insurance; insurance brokerages such as Budget Insurance Brokers and 1st for Women Insurance Brokers and life insurance provider, 1Lifedirect.

The unveiling of the Conrad Botes and Brett Murray artworks in 2013 will coincide with the launch of the Telesure Arts Programme and the official opening of their new premises.
