The Photographers Gallery za in Cape Town is proud to present a solo exhibition by Cape Town photographer, David Lurie. The exhibition is entitled, Encounters at the Edge and is curated by Heidi Erdmann.

Lurie is an established photographer with many major solo exhibitions both in South Africa and abroad. This being his first solo exhibition at this gallery Erdmann used the opportunity to draw works from Lurie’s archive as well as new photographs taken in several areas of Cape Town earlier this year.

The exhibition is strongly centred on architecture, places, spaces, formal and informal dwellings and structures found on the periphery of our urban centres, in this case, Cape Town. This is a photographic journey; Lurie’s photographs take the viewer to the edges of our urban sprawl. Portraits and landscapes are included.

The exhibition will travel to Bekris Gallery, San Francisco in November, 2012.
