Wednesday 11: PR: Provenance Blanket Drive
2012-07-10

Provenance Auction House is staying true to its ethos of being a destination for all Cape Townians. And as winter has approached with a vengeance, so to has the response been from us. Aware of our surroundings and the plight of the people, Provenance has quickly put together a blanket drive for the homeless, in response to the cold and wet conditions, facing the city.

From now until their next auction, Ethnic Bells, to take place on the 28th of July, Provenance Auction House will be collecting blankets, on behalf of the Haven Night Shelters. This non-profit organisation, which caters to not only the inner Cape Town precinct, but outlying areas as well, is in much need of immediate assistance. The demand for warmth and shelter has dramatically increased as the temperatures have crashed.

To get the process started, Provenance is donating the first 100 blankets. “We encourage all of Cape Town to get behind us, and assist with this worthy cause”. “We have large plans ahead to include much social responsibility. But we acknowledged the crisis and decided to start immediately”

Established in 1978, in Cape Town, The Haven Night Shelter Welfare Organisation, provides temporary shelter, physical care, social welfare and family re-unification services to adult homeless persons, typically described as “street people” or “vagrants” in the Western Cape.

“There comes a stage in the downward path of certain human beings at which point they literally cannot look after themselves. At that point, someone has to step in and give them a lift. That is what the Haven tries to do.”

Provenance shares this ethos, and is very motivated to assist. Please drop all blankets at our premises, 8 Vrede Street Gardens. If you have a quantity and would need assistance with a collection, please contact us on 021 4618009, or info@provenanceart.co.za
